Aerophonic

In 2022 Jarry Singla was selected by the „Cultural Foundation of the German Federal States“ (Kulturstiftung der Länder) for a six-month residency at the renowned CITÉ INTERNATIONALE DES ARTS in Paris. During this stay, he initiated the trio AEROPHONIC with two outstanding artists from the Parisian music scene.

Jarry already had a long-standing musical friendship with the harmonica player Olivier Ker Ourio. The two first met in 2003 at a festival in Monterrey, Mexico. Olivier grew up on the île de la Réunion and has earned such a great reputation in the jazz world that journalists repeatedly characterize him as “the only worthy successor to Toots Thielemans”. The celebrated Noé Clerc is one of the most refreshing young French accordionists, whose eclectic, multi-faceted playing perfectly matches Jarry Singla‘s cross-cultural music.

AEROPHONIC unites three musicians who regard a dialog beyond all dogmas as a central component of their work. The exploration of exciting instrumentation is at the heart of the trio. Unexpected sonic textures emerge from the interplay of the aerophones harmonium, harmonica and accordion.

All musicians contribute compositional material. Their organically flowing music draws on the richness of global sound cultures. Rhythms from the île de la Réunion and South Indian talas are rethought for the instruments and combined with contemporary harmonies. Unconventional role allocations, playing techniques and preparations enrich the wonderful musical world of the ensemble.
