Jarry Singla EASTERN FLOWERS
Jarry Singla – piano, indian harmonium, compositions, arrangements
Ramesh Shotham – South Indian and Western percussion
Christian Ramond – double-bass
In case of Jarry Singla EASTERN FLOWERS, this means a highly individual interweaving of Indian art and temple music with European jazz, but also with elements of baroque counterpoint and Olivier Messiaen´s special scales.
Founded in 2009 by Jarry Singla, the ensemble plays his compositions and performs nationally and internationally at outstanding festivals and concert series such as “Buenos Aires Jazz”, “Jazz Utsav New Delhi”, “Bolivia Festijazz”, “Acht Brücken – Musik für Köln”, “Lille Piano(s) Festival”, “Düsseldorf Festival” and „Musik in Donaueschingen”.
Jarry Singla’s highly renowned companions, the percussionist Ramesh Shotham and the double-bass player Christian Ramond, also have Indian roots. Ramesh, winner of the WDR Jazz Prize, is one of today´s most in demand jazz-percussionists in Europe. Christian has worked with jazz legends such as Albert Mangelsdorff, Kenny Wheeler and Lee Konitz.
Jarry Singla EASTERN FLOWERS is honoured to have been selected by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for the so-called “Ensembleförderung” (ensemble promotion programme). The trio has released three CDs on the label “Jazzsick Records” to date: MINERALLE (2013), TENDU (2020) and CONFLUENCE (2024).
In 2013 Jarry Singla spent six months in Mumbai on a scholarship from the Arts Foundation of North- Rhine Westphalia (Kunststiftung NRW) and the Goethe Institut. Since then the trio has been working with fantastic classical North Indian musicians. Projects with the sarod virtuoso Pratik Shrivastav and the spiritual singer Sanjeev Chimmalgi have led, among other things, to a collaboration with the Frankfurt Radio Bigband (HR Bigband).

Listening to pianist Jarry Singla, double bassist Christian Ramond and percussionist Ramesh Shotham, a key musical statement by composer Karlheinz Stockhausen comes to mind: Every human being carries the whole of humanity within him.
